Performers Saturdays 11-2

Audition information 

The audition workshop will consist of a group singing, acting and dance class.
Select students will be asked to attend a callback audition 

Audition Workshop Date: Saturday August 20th 2022 11-2pm
Callback Date: Sunday 21st August individual 20 minute time slots from 10am 

(Please note a callback doesn’t guarantee a main role, it just means the panel would like to see you again to help finalise their decision.)
Please note:  All students will have at least a small speaking part in the show if they would like. Ensemble parts are an essential part of the cast and are often on stage the most. Main parts are usually only given to students that have attended at least one term of CMDC classes, the experience of rehearsing and performing in a production is a wonderful experience but also requires hard work and dedication)

Fees

The Fees for performers classes 18 weeks Saturdays 11-2pm  =10,000 baht
Production Fee to cover cost of costumes, production week =1500 baht.

***Please note all fees must be paid before the audition. 

Main Characters
Maria (soprano)- She is young, free spirited, warm, gentle, and kind with much determination
Captain George von Trapp (baritone) - A Principle of an international school near Chiang Mai. Polished, yet overly structured in the way he runs his life to repress his sadness over the death of his wife. Underneath, he is warm, understanding, and determined.

Von Trapp Children (singing roles):
Liesl (mezzo) Age 16 - the oldest child, blossoming into a young lady. She has a maternal edge to her and cares very deeply for her younger siblings.
Friedrich Age 13-15  - Tough exterior, very much trying to be “the man” of the family.
Louisa - Age 12-14  Rebellious attitude, slow to warm up to Maria.
Kurt - Age 10-12 Gentle and mischievous
Brigitta - Age 9-11  Smart, reads a lot
Marta - Age 7-9 Very sweet and gentle
Greta -Age 5-8  Adorable youngest child

Acting parts - Learn off by heart. 

MARIA 

I am not finished yet, Captain!  I know you don’t know your children, but you’ve got to. Take Liesl – Liesl isn’t a child any more. And if you keep treating her as one, Captain, you’re going to have a mutiny on your hands. And Friedrich- Friedrich’s afraid to be himself- he’s shy- he’s aloof, Friedrich needs you- he needs your confidence- Brigitta could tell you about him. She could tell you a lot more if you got to know her, because she notices things. And she always tells the truth-especially when you don’t want to hear it. Kurt-is sensitive-he’s easily hurt-and you ignore him-you brush him aside the way you do all of them. (The CAPTAIN starts to leave.) I haven ‘t finished yet! Louisa-wants to have a good time. You’ve just got to let her have a good time. Marta-I don’t know about yet but someone has to find out about her. And little Gretl -just wants to be loved-Oh, please, Captain, love Gretl, love all of them. They need you.

CAPTAIN

I am Ajarn von Trapp. You are Maria? Before the children meet you, you will put on another dress. I’ll see that you’re given some material - today if possible. Now, Miss Maria as to your duties here. You will be in charge of my children. There are seven of them. You will find out how far they have progressed in their studies and carry on from there. Each morning will be spent in the classroom. Each afternoon, they march. You will see that at all times, they conduct themselves with decorum and orderliness. The first rule in this house is discipline. 

Singing Audition
For any student wishing to sing solo in the show. Compulsory for Maria and the children. 

Please prepare 16 bars or the chorus. Here is an example attached:

Please bring a backing track/ instrumental if needed or you can sing without a backing track.
Please contact us regarding private singing lessons if needed before the audition.

-Previous theatre experience 

-Whether you are Interested in a main part, dancing, singing or ensemble. 

- Any dates you will be absent between August 20th and November 20th.
- Please note there will be a mandatory production week at the theatre
Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th November 10-4pm.
Monday 14th, Tuesday 15th and Thursday 17th November 5-8pm 

-The show dates will be Friday 18th November 5-8pm, Saturday 19th November 12-3 and 5-8pm.
