Lamda Exam Guidelines

Additional Information

LAMDA ( London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) is one of the UK’s most prestigious drama schools offering performance-based examinations.

Examinations are open to all Chiang Mai Drama Centre students aged 5 plus, with the approval of the CMDC Team.

Why take LAMDA exams?

  • LAMDA exams are recognised educational qualifications and are accredited as an Awarding Body by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) in England.
  • The higher level examinations award UCAS points (for university entry in the UK). As an example, a distinction or a merit award at Grade 8 is worth the same university points as an A grade at AS level.
  • Measure progress against an internationally applied standard
  • Make contact with expert assessors outside the immediate teaching environment
  • Receive critical appraisal and guidance for future development
  • Build self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Acquire skill certification
  • Receive a record of personal achievement

Lessons

Our Lamda Courses are delivered via private sessions with an acting coach. If the student has previous acting experience we recommend at least 4 private sessions before the exam.

For new students, we would recommend at least 2 blocks of drama classes before registering for a LAMDA exam.

A mock exam will be scheduled before the exam.

For the exam:

The exam will take place on ZOOM with a LAMDA Examiner based in the UK.

Students will perform:

One set piece monologue (Acting coach to provide)

One Free choice monologue (Acting coach to assist with choices)

Answer knowledge questions. (Acting coach will set homework to assist with this section)

Cost

Private Lamda sessions 1000b per hour. (At least 4 must be booked before the exam)

The examination fee is set by Lamda and depends on what grade is being taken but ranges from £29-£66.

There will be a 500 baht admin fee upon registering for the exam.

LAMDA is always a very positive experience for our students. However, if you are not sure whether it is right for you, come and speak to our staff about it.

You can also view the monologues attached below to see what is required in the exam.
